I came to the UK 18 months ago as a refugee – I had to leave as my life was in danger as the authorities had discovered I had become a Christian. I was granted refugee status after a year, but the council would not house me in a hostel as they said I was not vulnerable. I had no savings and was afraid I’d end up in the streets. A friend told me about Refugees at Home and within 2 weeks they put me in contact with P and C, who offered me a place to stay for as long as I needed it. I felt very welcomed in their home and it was the first taste of normality I’d had since leaving my own country . I am so grateful to them and Refugees at Home for all they have done to help me. I now have a full time job and have just moved into a shared rented house, but without their help things could have been very different.
